Geotechnical Engineering Projects

Burlington Waterfront Housing
Burlington, Vermont

A 5-story apartment building on a site containing unstable slopes which had resulted in a 15-inch settlement of neighboring Depot Street. In addition to determining soil-bearing capacity, the 2-phase geotechnical investigation involved slope stability analyses, concept development and design review.

Bay Road Stabilization
Colchester, Vermont

The road edge and guardrail along a 110-foot section of Bay Road began to settle (>3”/year) shortly after re-construction in the early 1990’s. The geotechnical investigation involved soil borings and slope stability analyses. The design repair scheme utilized 25-foot anchored sheetpiling.

Burlington Waterfront Park

Burlington Waterfront Park Boardwalk and Promenade
Burlington, Vermont

The focal point of Burlington’s Waterfront Park is a 700-foot long shoreline boardwalk and promenade north of the Burlington Boathouse. The 16’-wide boardwalk is an at-grade structure providing access to the shoreline; the promenade is a pile-supported structure extending out over the water.

Bridge of Flowers

Route 127 Ramp Stabilization
Burlington, Vermont

In 2001, an 80-foot section of roadway embankment failed. In addition, a new bike path was to be constructed in 2 years; this would worsen the slope during construction. The project involved analysis and design of cantilevered sheetpiling to provide temporary and permanent stabilization.

Circumferential Highway (Segments A & B)
Williston, Vermont

Numerous cut and fill analyses for the Williston portion of the proposed highway. Embankment fill analyses (settlement and stability) for 2 crossings and a fill over the Williston landfill. Pile analysis for bridge abutments. Bearing and settlement analysis for a tunnel and bike path MSE wall.
